the iPod. it is literally the most famous MP3 in the world. but where did it all start? we have the answer.
the first generation iPod was released in 2001. It was created by Steve Jobs and his team. the iPod was instantly a hit when it came out. it came with the iPod itself and a set of earbuds. the iPod could hold a thousand songs and it had a touch dial below the screen.
the 2nd gen was released in 2002. basically the same model, just more storage space.
3rd gen iPod. released in 2003. it was the first iPod to feature a bright screen and more buttons than its two predecessors.
the 4th gen iPod was released in 2004 and a new touch dial was introduced. it was the first iPod to carry photos and also have a color screen.
iPod Classic. released in 2005 and it was the first iPod that could feature different languages.
the 6th gen (iPod classic 2) was released in 2007. more storage space than the last model. not many features changed.

the iPod nano 3rd gen brought back the design of the iPod classic but in a smaller more fun way. the model was released in 2007
the iPod nano 4th gen was released in 2008 and was the first to feature an aluminum backside.
the iPod nano 5th gen was available in different colors and was released in 2009.
the iPod nano 6th gen was released in 2010 and was the first iPod nano to feature a touch screen. you could swipe through pages of apps like radio and music.
the seventh gen was released in 2012 and had a home button much like the iPhone and iPad. it had volume buttons on the side instead of the top and had a lock button on top. the design of the apps were also changed from squares to circles. and a wider screen meant more apps so instead of four apps on the screen, the iPod nano was fitted with six apps and two pages of them.
the iPod shuffle came out in 2005 and it had no screen. just buttons on the front and back that featured play, pause, fast forward, reverse, volume up or down, on/off, shuffle, and bluetooth connectivity.
the iPod shuffle 2nd gen was released in 2006 and was much smaller than the first. it had the same buttons as the first gen. the only thing that really changed was the size as well as the clip on the back that you could hook to your clothes so you wouldn't have to pick it up all the time.
the iPod shuffle 3rd gen was released in 2009 and it brought back the first gen design. only this time there was a headphone jack, (like always) and a lock button.
the iPod shuffle 4th gen was about as big as the iPod nano 6th gen and was the smallest iPod yet. the same dial was brought back as well as the on/off button. the model was released in 2010.
the iPod touch was the 2nd touch screen iPod invented. it came out in 2007, the same year as the iPhone. the iPod touch was the only iPod that had the thrill of an iPhone right in your pocket. the iPod touch 1st gen could connect to wifi and do anything that the iPhone could do. (except make calls and send texts) of course.
the iPod 2nd gen was released in 2008 and was the same thing as the iPhone 3g. better software. but no calls or texts and like the iPod 1st gen, it didn't have a camera.
iPod touch 3rd gen still had no camera but you could download iTunes songs and videos. you could also download games and listen to music (no surprise) the 3rd gen was released in 2009 along with the iPhone 3Gs.
the iPod 4th gen was released in 2010 and was one of the first iPods to feature software updates. it was fitted with iOS 4 but over time, went to iOS 5, and 6. the iPod 4th gen was the first iPod touch with a camera and also had FaceTime, iMessage, newsstand, and Passbook (iOS 6 only) the iPod 4th gen was the first to feature a built in microphone and a front facing camera.
the iPod touch 5th gen was released in 2012 and was the greatest iPod since the iPod 1. it came in a variety of colors including, black, silver, pink, yellow green, and blue. the iPod 5th gen came with iPod loop, a small silver circle on the back of the iPod that you could attach the iPod string to and put it on your wrist. the iPod camera was the first to feature a flash. it was also the first iPod to feature siri, and panorama pics. the iPod touch 5th gen is also the first to feature the lightning pin connector. the iPod 5 is the latest model and the world waits for the newest to release some time in the near future.
